About Karakol

Karakol Ski Base lies in the Karakol National Park near the town of Karakol in the Issyk-Kul region. It was once the ski base of the Kyrgyz SSR team and is now a commercial resort with hotels and lodges. Its ski area runs from about 2,300 m up to 3,450 m, and it is described as the highest ski resort in Central Asia.

Slopes suit all levels but the resort is best for good skiers, with 20 km of slopes split between easy, intermediate and difficult runs. Chairlifts are fixed-grip and slow. Ski touring routes start from the station, and cat-skiing is offered. Estimated snowfall is about 2.5 to 4 meters a season.
