About Tufandağ
Tufandağ Mountain Resort lies on the slopes of Mount Tufandağ near Gabala, between about 950 m and 1,920 m, with slopes for beginners and experts and snow guns to back up natural snow. Cable cars climb through oak, hornbeam and beech forest, and a ski school and equipment rental are on site.
The five-star Qafqaz Tufandag Mountain Resort Hotel stands at the resort with ski access and cable-car rides. In summer the cable cars and trails stay busy with hiking, quad biking and zip lines. Night skiing runs on some Saturdays in season.
Gabala, an old city
Gabala is one of the oldest cities in Azerbaijan, with a historical and ethnographic museum in the town.
Forests, lakes and waterfalls
Pine woods, Nohur lake and the Yeddi Gözəl waterfall are close to the resort, and the cable cars give views over the forest.
Sheki and its Khan's Palace
The Historic Centre of Sheki with the Khan's Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (2019). The palace is known for shebeke windows of colored glass, assembled without nails or glue.
Mugham and Novruz
Mugham, Azerbaijan's classical music, was listed by UNESCO in 2008, and Novruz, the spring festival, in 2009. Both belong to the Azerbaijani year.
